I am new to opensource tuning, and I have a 2011 Outback 2.5i manual transmission, USDM. I have been unable to get any ECU definitions for ECU Flash to work with it.

I have tried adding this definition viewtopic.php?f=34&t=8511 as well as this definition viewtopic.php?f=34&t=8362 to ECU Flash with no luck.

I opened a test ROM from a 2011 Outback 2.5i manual to check that I installed the definitions correctly, and that ROM was opened with ECU Flash with no problems. I did notice that the test ROM I opened was a slightly different filesize than the ones that I read from my car.

Any help would be appreciated. Attached are my ROM and the downloaded test ROM that I have been looking at

EDIT for future reference: I flashed the attached ROM with ID EE5IB20W to my car and have been tuning with that since it is defined, and all is going well

You have EE5IB20W.

I downloaded and added it just now (along with the updated 32 bit base), restarted ECU Flash and tried opening my ROM again and it still said that it was unknown. Thoughts?

Also, not sure if this relevant, but my car is a California model

The ROM opens for me, so all that I can think is that you have not saved the definitions to the locations indicated in the post or you have EcuFlash set to use a different rommetadata directory than its default.

Strange. I doubled checked locations and gave it another shot, with no luck. Out of curiosity I hit the "create new definition" and set it to inherit from the 2011 Outback definition and it said that my ECU ID was "75121a7307" and my xml ID was "EE5I910U". What does this mean?

This ROM is in fact CAL ID EE5I910U with ECU ID 75221A7007 which is currently undefined.

Is this the right forum to put up a definition request, or should I put it in the Experimental User Definitions sub-forum?

Edit: I flashed the rom with a different CAL ID that was for my car with the same ECU hardware and all went well. I will be using that for tuning. Not sure if this the best place to make note that this worked

I used this def with DE5F810B USDM 2011 outback 5-eat 3.6, Yes had to modify the def, But worked fine .
