He is asking if there is any specific DTC/CEL tables you need to get the tune started

Sometimes it can take a while to get a full definition done with those of us who are writing Definitions being very time poor

thx for clarifiying
i am new to this world (read so much, but yet did so little )

the best would be the ecu def file It self. I tried the program Ecuedit as he mentioned but i am more use to romraider and ecuFlash yet.
I compared a lot of rom and one of those who seems to be readable with romraider is the EZ1G108K An USDM 2.5i MT MY09 Forester
still mine is 2010. i am not sure reflash it with those def would be actually good !?

basically, i want to rescale at least AFR and OL CL (got more idea?)
I got last year this 2010 forester 2.5i ez1g600k USDM
but with and JDM ej20 SOHC inside swap by the previous owner. I tried to see if any tune was done to the car post Swap but I found no trace at all of any previous one.

bassicaly i found that the vehicule doesnt respond as intend. seems to always have to compasate here and there...
got no money for a worth boost.
but have bit of knowledge and mostly interest in tuning process
This is where i am know
thx

Hi there. I have a 2010 USDM Forester NA 5MT and have used and defined both EZ1GB10I and EZ1GB10K on this vehicle. Assuming your vehicle is USDM, either should work (EZ1GB10I is more compatible with BTSSM, after creating an alias to the AT ROM, EZ1GB10J). I have attached both ROMs along with XMLtoIDC files for each (useful for disassembly) as well as my notes taken during disassembly.

Hope this helps!

This is really nice stuff thx a lotttt
i started to overlook each file and i read without problem's your roms and your definitions on Romraider, even my rom with your definition and it look both the same on every point except of course the # of the def.
as it can seem, i am still a newbie with creating deff/write rom. What program should i use ? or do i rewrite one xml on notepad

really usefull file's thank you again

No problem! As far as writing the ROM to the vehicle, I suggest ECU Flash, which can be downloaded here: https://www.tactrix.com/index.php?optio ... blog&id=36

You can place the XML file (the one without RR) into the ROM metadata directory of ECU Flash to allow the ROM to be recognized by the program, no need to recreate it. You can find this directory by clicking on settings (the cog) in ECU Flash, then the rom metadata tab.

You'll also need to find and connect the two green "test mode" connectors before flashing/writing. With those connected, the vehicle will cycle fans and solenoids when you turn the key on. These connectors can be found under the passenger-side dash, near the bottom (I think it is like this on all Subarus, but could be wrong).

Also, if the flash fails, try again (or flash the original back) *without* cycling the key; the ROM is written on key off/on, so you still have a chance to save a bad flash until the ignition is cycled.

Happy to answer any questions you have, just ask.

for ecuflash, i already have use it to read and save my stock Rom EZ1G600K (my first file ). I had couple of tries before it worked with my fake tactrix (question off milisecond between ignition and the ok button of the software) but once it read , because i didn't had the right ecu in the directory of ecuflashprogram.
I only have been able to save it "as is". in srf or hex .file

From there i have the file original rom file and read and modifying on romraidder using your def RR_EZ1G10k.
So if i understand what you suggest, is that i put the ez1g10k ecu def xml file.
put it in the directory of romedata of ecuflash.
open ecuflash close to the car and flash it with the update rom file of my EZ1G600k saved on romraider ??
i am not sure it would worked ? should i need changes xml file name ? or maybe i missed a step?

You'll also need to find and connect the two green "test mode" connectors before flashing/writing. With those connected, the vehicle will cycle fans and solenoids when you turn the key on. These connectors can be found under the passenger-side dash, near the bottom (I think it is like this on all Subarus, but could be wrong).

no connect the two green "test mode"
can mode ecu

Thanks for the correction! The latest ECU I've personally flashed is a 2010 Forester, and that still had the test mode connectors (but I thought was CAN).

for ecuflash, i already have use it to read and save my stock Rom EZ1G600K (my first file ).

The XML files don't allow the ROM to be saved as other than an srf or hex files, they just let the program (e.g. ECU Flash or RomRaider), which are essentially hex editors, know where the tables are.

Also, I am not familiar with EZ1G600K, so can't say for sure if flashing with EZ1GB10K or EZ1GB10I will work, but it should if that ECU is a 2010 USDM Forester 5MT (unless there was a midyear ECU switch or something).

If you open EZ1GB10K or EZ1GB10I in ECU Flash after copying the EZ1GB10K or I xml file into the ECU Flash rommetadata directory, you should see all tables display correctly. If you want to try and open EZ1G600K in ECU Flash using one of my XML files, try and open it in ECU Flash after copying the XML files into the aforementioned directory, then there will be an option to map the unknown ROM to a current definition. Be VERY careful when doing this though, as if all addresses aren't exactly correct (they probably aren't) you can brick the ECU making changes.

Regarding the test mode connectors, I'm inclined to defer to the poster who stated that the CAN cars no longer use the test mode connectors, but have personally wired up my test mode connectors to a toggle switch for easier flashing, so maybe that's what you're seeing, if they are in fact there.

Big Thx and Updates about getting my forester 2010 USDM 5Mt 2.5i EZ1G600K having sort of a tune.
since last time i worked a lot with different tutorial and learning about IDA, XML'S Definition, IDC etc and got to the conclusion that maybe i can just flash my car for the moment with a KNOWN rom similar of mine.

so I chosed the one that Currancchs gave me EZ1G10K, a rom He defined. an other version of forester 2010 USDM 5Mt 2.5i

I used his definition to. onces i got sync with ecuflash and ignition swith timing (pain in the ass for my car....worked 1/50 each time. The program Flash it and VOILA

The car started like a charm/usual. I waited so the o2 get calibrated and whent for a ride.
i found it was a better driving experience compare to my own rom lol bit more sync. don't know why. your map is still for an 2.5 and mine is swap ej20 but nyway.

So bassicaly, I pass from a rom NOT modifiable without definition to one that CAN and HAVE definition
i will have to worked on a tune now

:) thx
