Hello everyone. I have a 1990 BC7 Legacy and am looking for ways to give it a slightly refreshed engine and generally make it friendlier to local fuel (it's imported and seems to prefer a different blend, for some reason behaves perfectly when I added like 10% ethanol/methanol mix into the fuel tank but otherwise AFR and ignition advance are so far off it's obvious by ear), and I've got an ECU from BP5 for virtually nothing (a favor in my expertise), but I couldn't find definitions for its firmware (E2T91372W01 if that's the right one of all the numbers

here).
Since I'll have to adapt it anyway, there's little reasons for me to stick to this ECU's stock firmware, am I right? And is there any known interchangeability between ECU firmware versions? I was hoping to put EJ204 heads onto this EJ22 bottom end later when I get the ECU sorted, together with some other stuff

P.S. also, my first post here, so hello everyone?

first job would be to make sure you can read and write the ECU ok - once you've the file read off it then you can ID it properly. The ROM id isn't the same as the case ID info.

Since this is my first time with a CAN based ECU, I want to clarify: I connect +12 and ground, and CAN bus to respective OBD2 contacts, and nothing else? (well also a battery of course)
I haven't found any applicable pinout yet (looking for Mitsubishi E2T91XXX pinouts) but am not giving up
...
though I believe now I know why I received this ECU in the first place. Seems rare

yeah can high/can low, power (constant +, ignition +, backup + etc.) and ground/signal ground/other grounds then power it up and try to read.
