Nope. I upgraded to Lion and no luck.

I only use my mac for viewing and editing maps. While Ecuflash "runs" i would not personally trust it. Certain things just do not work like say loading two maps into it for example. If basic things such as that do not work then I would not be hopeful that flashing your ECU works.

I got EcuFlash running on Snow Leopard, haven't flashed yet, but it does read the ROM. The issue is a conflict between the two types of FTDI (the chipset that Tactrix uses) drivers that are mutually exclusive on OSX. RomRaider uses VCP while EcuFlash uses D2XX. However, the VCP driver can be temporarily disabled from the terminal so that EcuFlash can work:

1. Before running EcuFlash, disable the VCP driver by unloading the kernel extension with this command:
sudo kextunload -b com.FTDI.driver.FTDIUSBSerialDriver

2. Before running RomRaider, re-enable the VCP driver by loading the kernel extension with this command:
sudo kextload -b com.FTDI.driver.FTDIUSBSerialDriver

3. Check to see if the VCP kernel extension is currently loaded with this command:
kextstat -b com.FTDI.driver.FTDIUSBSerialDriver
If it returns only a list of column headers, the driver isn't loaded.

So there you go, a minor inconvenience to load and unload the driver, but no reboots or VMs.

I use virtualbox(free) with XP on my 10.6 macbook.

Flashing and logging with no issue.

I have also done it with parallels and that worked too.

Resurrecting this thread - has anyone had luck with Mac OSX lately? I'm on 10.9.5 and both romraider and ecuflash at least "run". I haven't tried to do anything with them yet as I'm a total noob.

Ecuflash appears to work fine, however the RomRaider logger does not without messing around with the 32/64bit java runtimes. Instead of doing that I may just install Win7 in bootcamp on this macbook. I know there were some instructions to get things to work *better* on OSX earlier, but just not sure if I want to mess around with it.

Hi, I have been trying to follow JackANSI's instructions with my MacBook Air, OSX Yosemite 10.10.5, using RomRaider ver.0.5.9 RC 2, build# 738 for Linux.

JackANSI wrote:
In the end it is easier to get RomRaider running on the 64-bit Java environment than to change things to run on the 32-bit one. Eventually 32-bit environments will go away in favor of 64-bit ones anyway, just like what happened to 16-bit before 32 (and 8 bit before that).

From other posts on this forum, I understand that Romraider is not ever going to be developed for 64-bit Java.

So I hoped that the JackANSI instructions would work, because Apple seems to have made it impossible for me to force 32-bit Java to run on this machine (unless someone else here can point me in the right direction).

I think the current version of that librxtxSerial.jnilib file has been updated at that link since this "How To" post was written, because when I installed it, testing showed that it had "4 architectures" instead of "2 architectures". But since one of the four was still the x86_64 architecture, I figured that it would not matter.

When I start Romraider, I immediately get the dreaded message, "Incompatible JRE detected. RomRaider requires a 32-bit JRE for some operations. Some features may be unavailable."

If I then try to launch the logger, I get, "Incompatible JRE detected. RomRaider RomRaider Logger requires a 32-bit JRE. Logger will now exit."

I have not tried using an old version of RR, like RomRaider 0.5.3b RC9 or RC 10, as JackANSI used, but I doubt that would make any difference. The 32-bit warning and crash would still occur right at the start, before opening the Logger, wouldn't it?

Did the librxtxSerial.jnilib file change really trick RomRaider 0.5.3b RC9 into thinking that 64-bit Java was really 32-bit Java?

Did the guys who got this working a couple of years ago never get the "Incompatible JRE detected" warning, right when they tried to open RR?

I don't even get to the stage of seeing whether the librxtxSerial.jnilib file gave me any working serial ports, because the Logger always crashes before it opens, as soon as it recognizes that a 64-bit version of Java is running.

Any ideas, or any slim hope for a 64-bit Java version of RR?

The reason for the dependency on 32 Java is due to the supporting libraries used by the Logger. Many libraries only work with 32 bit as they have DLL's compiled for that version and none for 64 bit. The Editor will work for the most part but the Logger will fail in many areas. The bitness warning was added since many people were installing the 64bit version and then complained about RR not working for them.

You might get it to work as described in this thread but you will need to run an older version of RR to get away from the Logger warning and exit.

Thank you dschultz!

Backdating to ver.0.5.3b RC10 of Romraider did the trick, when following the rest of the JackANSI instructions. I think that might be the last version before you added the "bitness warning" to the logger.

No more crashing when starting the logger. I am only using basic logger functions with a VAG COM cable, so this is ideal.

I did not have to substitute any of those files that you created for 64-bit Java in that other thread you just linked. The librxtxSerial.jnilib mod is all it took.

This Mac is running 64-bit Java for OSX, version 8, update 65, which is the most current version at the moment.

Thanks again, very much!
