I've got an old 15" Mag LCD LT501 Monitor that has a problem with the end of the monitor cable (some kind of short), that causes the screen to be completely unusable. It uses a proprietary connection to the monitor. I contacted Mag about getting a replacement cable, but they refuse to sell them to the public and instruct their authorized parts dealers to refuse as well. Instead, they want over $100 to "look" at my monitor.
I have another generic monitor replacement cable. I was thinking about soldering it onto the proprietary one or removing and placing the white connector on the new cable, but I think this is outside of my skill set. Any ideas? Would it be easy to find someone locally to do this, maybe a fellow Subaru enthusiast, or does this take a professional? I've been watching Ebay to try to find a parts monitor, but all of them I've seen have the same issue as me.

The monitor itself isn't worth more than $75-$100, if that, so I'm not looking to invest more than $20-$30. Thanks!
