It notice that the ECU has boost maps for manual and automatic transmissions. It strikes me that it would be nice if you could set one of these maps for an economy/low boost setting and then another for enthusiastic driving and then switch between the two on the fly.
I wonder how the ECU knows whether the car is MT or AT. If it's coded into the ECU then this line of enquiry is dead.
However, if there is a some sort of switch or external trigger to the ECU that tells the ECU that the car is either MT or AT, could we install some kind of switch that would allow us to change boost maps real time?

AFAIK romraider doesn't currently support this
however this was a feature from ecutek or earlier WRXs, where you pressed defog and WOT and this jumped from AT to MT map

it wouldn't be that hard to do what ecutek did. Unfortunately, as far as USDM, only the 02 model year has MT/AT maps, whereas 03-05 WRX have tranny specific roms.
And like any hacks that have already been tested, there's no capability for patching and managing hacks in romraider right now. You need something that can patch multiple areas of the rom at once, recognize what the current patch is, update to newer versions, remove old versions, recognize if the rom code has been modified (commercially) and also the ability to return the ROM to stock.

Patching the Roms is what "xswrex" on NASIOC is doing for LC and soon FFS.

The bottom line is that most of these hacks are not difficult to do at all if you know what you are doing (LC, FFS, per gear wg comp, map switching, etc.), just the distribution and adaptation to the many different rom revisions is the time-consuming part, especially if it is going to be in a way that is user friendly.

Views welcome. This may be possible. The older subarus with the non flashable ecu had this. The ecu knew if it was an auto or manual. There was a pin on the ecu that was either grounded or open depending if it was an auto or manual. You would have to search the ecu pinout for an 02 wrx and see if it had a pin like that. You would also have to find out if anything else is affected when it switches from the auto to manual trans maps. Like posted above this could possibly work on 02 only. If it is possible all you would have to do is wire up a switch to that pin on the ecu and ground.

Views welcome. The only problem with this is that there are numerous undefined maps and logic based on MT v. AT which you would also be switching causing the potential for driveability issues. It would be much easier and less problematic solution to do a map switching hack similar to what ecutek has done (thus only the boost/max wg tables would be impacted). Since tinywrex is working on that, I would wait until he releases it and use it instead.

This is interesting. In my EDM 2004 forester xt rom there also are two "target boost" maps, but they are called A and B, not MT and AT. Is this the target boost maps for MT and AT? I was also wondering if it is possible to do a mapswitch like ECUtek, and I am looking forward to see if anyone of you can come up with a solution.

I am not sure exactly how ecutek did it, or how tinywrex is going about it, but surely the easiest way would be to run the normal MT boost map and just have a switchable and configurable negative offset (i.e. Say you run 2.5 Bar as max boost on the MT boost map, then when in Low boost mode, the ECU will read the value from the MT boost map and reduce that value by the offset of say 0.5 Bar down to a minimum of atmospheric pressure)? Hope I am making sense.
