Maybe "conclusion" was the wrong word. :)

I'll try from home later. I am having other network issues at work anyway. They are posted on osecuroms, but I wanted to post my 06-07 WRx Stage 1 mappings and my 07 STI Stage 1 mappings here as well.

I'm wondering if maybe I should add a sub-forum to the base maps forum for base map uploads only? Just to keep them organized and separate from requests/discussion. I did add "BASE MAP:" to the title of each base map post but as more are uploaded it may be hard for a user to find exactly what they are looking for. I didn't want a bunch of different sub-categories, though, where it ends up there's only 1 or no roms posted in a lot of them. I was thinking it could be like this:
WRX BASE MAPS
STI BASE MAPS
FXT/LGT/OBXT/BAJAT BASE MAPS
OTHER BASE MAPS

Other base maps would include NA models - 2.5RS, etc.

mechgod i think you have great idea..what about splitting it into subforums for each year/make..that way people can go straight to what they are needing instead of hunting for the correct rom all the time.

I like the idea of separate forums for "base maps" and "map requests." But the forum subtitles need to make it really clear what the two subforums are all about. Like "Request a map for your car" and "Post your own maps - NOT FOR MAP REQUESTS" or something like that. Look at openecu.org, with its "users" and "development" subtrees... the development forums are full of questions from users about usage.

I don't think it makes sense to split things up further. For example, a ROM for an STI with an FP Green is probably going to be more similar to a map for an LGT with an FP Green than to a map for a "stage 1" STI. And the principles/process for tuning one turbo Subaru will be pretty similar to the principles and process for tuning another turbo Subaru. Turbo and NA subforums would probably be a good idea, but I don't think finer distinctions would really help anyone.

Personally, more subforums just sounds like more forums to crawl through each day, to make sure I'm not missing anything good. :)

I wouldn't add a request sub-forum. Users could just request in the main base maps forum. Of course, requests are kind of lame to begin with as it is not like someone is going to pull a map out of their ass for given mods. If they had the map, they would have likely have already posted it.

As far as organizing the maps by model - I think this makes the most sense. Yes, an FP green STi map is going to be more similar to an FP green LGT map that a stage 2 STi map, but users are first going to look for maps that pertain to their particular model (or the model they are currently tuning). The vast majority will be turbo roms, so separating by only turbo/NA will result in a large turbo listing as the uploads grow that may be difficult to wade through. Anyway, I'll try out the organization by model and see how it goes.

I've been thinking about how to group them too. It's hard to balance between getting it split up nicely vs. too much granularity. Maybe 16 bit and 32 bit groups, or group model years together?

I agree about the lame bit, people should at least realize they can copy tables between similar model year roms. But I think there is no way around having people make requests.

I think anymore than 4 or 5 categories and it just becomes too cluttered unless you have a sufficient number/variety of roms to support the additional categories.

Its fine if people request maps, just probably I'll remove this from the base map forum description and maybe add something to the sticky about how maps cannot be created based merely on a list of mods, etc.
