Hello
I have boxes in the garage that have been waiting for a long time
waiting to find sufficient information and insurance to make this upgrade.
(intake cam and manifold with injector m54b30)
I regularly research on the forum any information useful for the realization of this upgrade since 2 years.
I have more and more information on the settings of the dme (thanks to all of you and to the definition which is growing).
What I think I understood for the cam:
intake camshaft duration must be changed 227.88 / 240
intake camshaft initial position must be modified 120/126
What I think I understood for the injectors:
fuel injector dead time map modify by original map values m54b30
minimum fuel injection time 0.624 / 0.725.
for the manifold:
I think above all it takes a lot of logging and adaptation on the fuel.
I have studied the primary operation of vanos and cams but I still have the question.
what does it mechanically do when modify initial position and duration map
(initial position= the degree between tdc 0 and when camshaft has reached the peak of the lobe 126 degree?
and time duration the degree of physical opening of valve 240 for m54b30?)
In my idea (can be stupid) this does not modify the operation of the vanos, the cam is fixes in the same place and moves +/- 40 degree maybe if it is not adapt can do a reading error between the setpoint map and the measurement of the sensor.
I know that this subject can be boring for you because this modification was made many time but I do not manage to know:
(i speak about basic just to start engine and log, not talking about "tune")
-if I have all the vanos maps for this mod (2 maps)
if I modify only two maps is it a success, a mod that works not correctly another map is missing, a broken down car?
-device for injectors (2 maps)
successful adaptation, map missing,a broken down car?
- for the manifold I am rather confident with patience and trials.
this video:

many happy owners have made this upgrade here or in his comments.
I would just like to avoid keeping the parts in the garage until the petrol dies or disassembling everything only to realize that I missed something in the dme and need to go back.
I did my best to find the informations myself before asking.
I hope that this topic (which can contain a lot of errors) can be a start for a more beginner than me (if it exists)
thank you
