I've got an old 15" Mag LCD LT501 Monitor that has a problem with the end of the monitor cable (some kind of short), that causes the screen to be completely unusable. It uses a proprietary connection to the monitor. I contacted Mag about getting a replacement cable, but they refuse to sell them to the public and instruct their authorized parts dealers to refuse as well. Instead, they want over $100 to "look" at my monitor.

I have another generic monitor replacement cable. I was thinking about soldering it onto the proprietary one or removing and placing the white connector on the new cable, but I think this is outside of my skill set. Any ideas? Would it be easy to find someone locally to do this, maybe a fellow Subaru enthusiast, or does this take a professional? I've been watching Ebay to try to find a parts monitor, but all of them I've seen have the same issue as me. The monitor itself isn't worth more than $75-$100, if that, so I'm not looking to invest more than $20-$30. Thanks!

If you need a monitor I have a few 15" LCD's laying around. Just pay for shipping and I can get one out to you. It's the least I can contribute to all of your hard work for us.

Wow, laying around? :D Well, I can't say that I NEED a monitor. I'm probably like you (well not to your extreme), where I have multiple computers and multiple monitors. My wife has her own computer (keep her off of mine  ) and she was perfectly fine with the 15" LCD until the problem. Now I have a 17" desk-hogging CRT there. Actually, I just bought a Samsung 204b LCD for me and should arrive soon to replace my Samsung 19" CRT. So, no shortage of monitors here. But that 15" LCD was perfectly fine before the cable.

I'll pay the shipping if you still want to give it away. I just don't want you to send it thinking that I was without a monitor. But if they are sitting in a closet somewhere like my old K5-133 AMD desktop, then by all means - send it to me. :D

Hah! If you've got any 19" LCDs (or CRTs for that matter) that you'd get rid of for not a whole lot of money I'm interested. I keep looking back at pricewatch.com but I can't bring myself to pull the trigger.
