deTuning for afterfires when i shift WITHOUT a BOV....

Ok, some things are just there for entertainment and ear candy effect. One is the subaru rumble, so we buy aftermarket exhaust to hear it. Another is the BOV pshhh which I personally do not like, but some folks do. But for me, I really love the sound of the afterfire when my friend shifts gears in his legacy. He's running a bov, i'm not. And right now my car feels boring

What I'm thinking is to richen up the fueling map in some high rpm, low load sections,
also cut back some timing there too.

Do you guys think that

1. This is safe to do (9:1 AFR and some low timing)
if not what are the side effects or dangers?

2. Will this achieve what I want?

Please don't flame me for this post. I don't know a lot of things, and what I don't know I ask before trying.

is that your olf map?

If so, your fuel economy must be terrible.

It's not bad, on the highway I'm between 11 and 12 km/l
climbing hill it drops to around 5-7

but i just realized the rich 1.4 load region, thnx

But yeah, what's your thoughts on getting afterfire crackles?

it might work. i see no harm in trying. also make sure that your decel fuel cut is set to redline. if tps=0 and rpm>decel fuel cut, injector duty = 0, regardless of OLF map.

except I can't find that setting in the map
I only see the rev limit fuel cut

Download the alpha defs for your rom. If they aren't in there ask someone to define them for you.

hiya,

if your map has "base timing idle (in-gear) above speed threshold" use a value of -10 for 2000rpm and above and you'll get some epic machine gun fire sounds when you let off. I found with the WRX I didn't need any fuel to make good sounds so no adjustments to the fuel map are needed.

You can also do it by setting the timing map to -10 in the lowest load column from say 4000 to redline. When coasting down in gear lighty touch the throttle to engage the negative timing and enjoy.

Mine didn't work with the A and B map set like this..

But I noticed when I let off the throttle it defaulted to 24* timing....It was the idle timing setting coming in real quick

Which corresponded to this which i you mentioned, and I changed it to -10 and changed the rpm to 3000

gonna test it out. Hope it doesn't kill my turbo before i return.

Well, it didn't work. The timing went to 0 when I let off

When using the base timing map you need to apply light throttle when coasting down to hear it. This is how I do it so that I have control over when it does and doesnt happen.

you shouldn't need all those columns adjusted, just the left most one from 3000 to 7000. Set it to -10 and if there is anything in the knock correct advance table for this load then zero that out and you'll be good to go.

-10 is OK for day to day use, if I'm out to impress then -15 or -20 is the way to go but it just doesn't feel like its being kind to the car.
