Hello:

Do anyone knows if the CAN messages in Subaru seen by logging are the same messages a CAN Sniffer will pick up?

Yes, but those Logging messages are only present when a Logger is actively querying the ECU. Otherwise all you will see is inter-module CAN messages at specific intervals.

CAN sniffer gets all messages sent to high speed CAN bus by ECU, TCM, VDC\ABS regarless of diagnostic queries.
Those messages are usually sent with 20 and 100 ms periods.

You may start here
https://subdiesel.wordpress.com/ecu-ana ... -messages/

It may be sufficient for your task just to listen to those messages with applicable CAN IDs.

Sasha,

What setup do you used for sniffing?

The OpenPort 2 will do it if you follow the tutorial in the SubDiesel page.
https://subdiesel.wordpress.com/2011/05 ... -tutorial/
You'll need to tweak the message filter settings to be able to listen in on all the CAN messages.

There's also a sample app in the \OpenECU\EcuFlash\samples\canlogger directory you can compile that allows you to use the Openport 2 as a sniffer.

I do use a homebrew one as usual.
The content of CAN messages may be discoverred thru the ecu code disassembled as was done by Subaru Diesel team.

I would expect that, but not a programmer. I need to control the tranny for a 10 second car. Its a build tranny. We want to use ems.

If you use Denso TCM for Subaru tranny then subdiesel team findings will probably fill your needs.

I'm going to write a RR Logger plugin for this adapter.
http://www.fischl.de/usbtin/
primarily for AEMnet, but I'm sure it could server other purposes too.

That would be great. We have the best cable n the best logging program.

It would be a while until I can access the transmission. The car is down and being built.

Hello everyone. We are getting close to the car being up and I have found a lot of maps in regards to being close to the calculated engine torque.

On another note, I will be close to sampling the CAN messages to see possibilities. We really want to run ems but I am seeing some good work with the megasquirt with someone on the legacygt forum.
