cant communicate with the ecu using ecu flash and unbricking instructions i have found googling around by chance do i need to use different tests pads from the older 32bit ecu's when i use the actual renesas dev tools it says that it wont work with a 7058c only 7058f which has me wondering if its less me doing something wrong and more that it cant be done any tips or tricks would be greatly apreciated here is the schematic i ultimately used

i was forced to use a 47k instead of 47.5k bc i was sent the wrong resistors and had to make a trip to radio shack however others have said they used the 47k without issues

Use the vehicle's harness to power it. Otherwise you can get the pinouts with a temporary subscription to Subaru's technet.

You need to connect cable/computer and ecu/car grounds otherwise you may have floating potentials between the two.

If FDT doesn't work, try ECUFlash in boot mode.

hey thanks merp i think i realized my problem and im goint to try it in the car it came out of i was trying to power it with a 2011 wrx and im guessing the pinout is different i was hoping to not make the hour long trip to put it back in the 08 to power it and yes i have connected the grounds together

another question sorry for being a noob just want to check before i do more damage instructions say to use complete rom i have the rom i initially pulled from the car using ecu flash is that the complete rom? if not does some one have the complete rom they could share with me?

As long as you didn't have any problems reading the rom, it should be fine. There's a list of stock roms here: viewtopic.php?f=35&t=7591

thanks merp my whole issue was using a 12 wrx to power an 08 ecu and the 08 had a blown ecu fuse and a dead battery once i got the battery charged rom flashed great in ecu flash recovery mode

If you could not find the car harness..I have traced the following
MY08 WRX ECU(SH7058S)-AZ1E400C Tracing

PVcc2 (+5V), ASIC Power supply
P512/T01/C002

Vcc (+3.3V), I/O Power Supply
C006/C005/P511

I/O TX(P411),RX(P409), WatchDog(P407), FWE(P405), MD1(P413)

Additonal Information
ECU CHIP, In R4F70580S , required at least Ecuflash V1.43 to recover

The tricky part is finding the right Vcc point,indeed it is not that difficult, based on the CPU pinout..you can trace them out, 5V or 3.3 IO Supply mostly with Big Filtering Capacitor around them. I dont use CPU harness,just direct 5V and 3.3V to power up the CPU direct.
