Ok got it.
Sorry about that, I'm not totally sure what is or not relevant, so I just logged everything that was enabled by default when the logger def connected to the ecu. I suppose I should trim them down to rpm, loads, injector and ocv duty, vvl and throttle.

No worries - we all have to start somewhere! I highly recommend NSFW's thread - viewtopic.php?f=33&t=5384.

I'm going to craft some custom logger addresses for you as well over the next couple of days, so I can test the function of some of these parameters.

So Matt - other than the Rpm and OSV duty thresholds, in tuning other platforms, which other thresholds would practically be useful? I ask because there are many, many thresholds, some of which are related to CELs which may not really be required from a tuning point of view.

Is engine load available?(ie over 1.3g/rev = on, under 1.1g/rev off)
Also injector pulsewidth?

That would be about the minimums needed

Well, those pulls confirm another set of tables for me - RPM vs TPS % angle.

If you look at all those WOT pulls, the VVL mode switches from 1 to 3 at around 2050RPMs each time.

This is why.

If you want to confirm this, here's the revised definition - raise the 2400 cell of table A (which seems to be the dominant table at play) to 90%. If I'm right, the logs should show the switch over on WOT only occurring at 2400. I would change it back to stock values thereafter.

Yep, today's pull confirm that.

https://docs.google.com/folder/d/0B__qK ... NkYjg/edit

I think I was imagining any extra power associated with VVL thresholds before tho, seems as tho WOT will open them up anyway?

Exactly what I was thinking last nightwhen I discovered these tables (and saw your first logs) - system is already set up for WOT to kick in high mode as early as possible.

No real benefit, you really need vvl past peak avcs anyway to be causing a cam retard restriction that would inhibit airflow thus need more valve lift

Also, protect your bearings is priority!

OK, so this is the 2.5i VVL system explained for PZEV - Excuse the Copy/Pasta from where I wrote it originally :)

So I had a few questions lately about how the VVL system(aka AVLS) in the 2.5i works and have devised a brief summary based on the email replies that should cover the blanket response :)

The EJ25 AVLS is not for 'performance' the VVL system is there for fuel economy, with the concept actually stolen from Honda with their VTEC-E Engines... that is VTEC - E with the E for Economy and is one reason why the USA has the 2.5i listed as a PZEV. Here is an article on the VTEC-E engine
http://www.b18c5eg.com/VTEC/sohcvtece.html
which further explains how fuel economy is achieved by only having one inlet valve open below 3000rpm and the factory tune running fully in closed loop with 14.7:1 AFR's for fuel economy and lower emissions. Above 3000rpm, the factory tune actually richens up by 7% to account for the sudden rush of airflow generated by the second cam lobe activating :)

Attachment:
SUBARU_EJ25_i-AVLS.jpg

As you can see, only 1 inlet valve opens with the second yellow pin activating the second inlet valve when required :)

Once exhaust mods or intake mods are done, the added engine flow dictates that the AVLS RPM point should be lowered to eliminate the single inlet valve as being a restriction but if you want to keep fuel economy, it can still be achieved with stock AVLS rpm by tweaking the AVLS airflow value so once airflow goes past a predetermined value that is considered a restriction, the AVLS activates, even if engine rpm is not high enough, just need to set the fuel table to add fuel above this value :)

I was requested to pull these out for D0XJ001P, and in doing so trawled the logic much more comprehensively. OSV current is a key variable in all this logic.

I've uploaded the Alpha definition onto Github, here.

Here's a picture of all the tables / parameters revealed:

td-d,

If you can define the AVLS tables for EE5K801W, I can do a lot of testing since I have a 2.5i Outback now.

P.S. The EE5K801W definition on you GitHub page has an error at line 219, it's missing the table address thus ECUFlash doesn't load the bins correctly, I commented out line 219 and ECUFlash became happy with it :).

Is it possible to get the Alpha VVL defs for the D2WD610H AUD 2004 Liberty 3.0 R
Have gone turbo and wanting to make sure this is all setup correctly.

I would assume D2ZS002D would be very similar or the same, but my assembly skills are lacking.

Thx.
