My laptop just froze during an ECU flash and it seems that the ECU is now bricked...

http://www.tactrix.com/index.php?option ... &Itemid=41

Is that currently the only way to unbrick the ECU? Has anyone had any luck with this?

If you never powered off the ECU then restart the laptop and reflash. Otherwise yes, use the Tactrix service or DIY.

That's extremely frustrating to now know all would have been well if I hadn't turned it off... but also very useful information in the future!

Just pulled out the ECU, guess we'll see what the turnaround time is from Tactrix and weigh that against doing it myself.

Thanks for the info!

I found this on ebay, does anyone know if this would work?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/2012-12-FORESTE ... 4c&vxp=mtr

My ECU label says 22765AD401, 112700-0863 12V. While the ebay ECU is 22765AD400, 112700-0682 12V. I have a 2012 Forester MT, just like the one on ebay, but I think the only difference is my vehicle is not a California emissions vehicle. Would I be able to just flash over that ECU with my ROM?

It is most likely the same but with an earlier version of software. If you install a new ECU you still need to take the car to the dealer to re-link the ECU with the BIU and reset the IMMO.
