Ive just recently downloaded romraider and am looking to start tuning my ms41.1 ECU with it. Ive currently gopt romraider loaded on my desktop PC which is less than conveniant for tuning. If i get the software to work right ill move it to a laptop, but for now i'll keep playing with it on my desktop.

So My questions:
1)do i have to have an ECU plugged in to view the maps etc? (im guessing so)
2)Is there any way to make up a harness for 'bench testing' an ECU? ie making a harness to wire in an OBD2 port, and give the ecu 12v power from the comfort of my office?

Thanks for the help. PS im new here, so please be nice to the noob.

1.No,you need to read your ECU's memory and load it in RR using either galleto or MS41 flash tool. You need to read only partitial memory(24kb).
2.Since reading the memory takes 3mins and so is the writing I don't see a reason to make a bench because to see the results of the tune you need to remove and reconect the ECU every time you modify.
BTW I am also new in this forum and I am trying to tune my M52B28 with ZHP and Non vanos cams(2x240, 9,7lift) so if you have the same setup we may help each other. :)

Definitely posting late on this but for clarity for others that wanna play with their E36 ecu, get the 16-pin obd adapter for the ecu port under the hood (the big round connector, where you reset the oil change light at). If you pull from the OBD port under the dash you only get the partial BIN file. You get full BIN from underneath hood through the 16-pin.
Building the bench setup seems like a pain, and the process of getting the ECU(s) from its cubby hole is annoying also. But, that's opinion and definitely seems more full proof, especially if you track the car.

For the most thorough information on this, OpenMS41 has it all.
