Hello. I have a bmw e39 523i M52B25 EU ms 41.0. I need a obd2 Protocol. But I haven't found an answer in this forum. I read a lot this forum. Please tell me how step by step I can convert MS41.0 to MS41.1 to have OBD2 Protocol.Whether you need something to turn off in the firmware after conversion. Thank you.

You need ms41 flash tool that allow you to write full flash to your Ms41. You need to disable misfire detection on ms41.1 file before.

There is no CONVERT function at all. You have to use "write fullflash" option, chose ms41.1 fullflash File from your hdd, than "flash".

I suggest flashing the full flash I posted in this thread as a starting point to get you to ms41.2

ba114 Is your full flash contains a knock tables converted to use it with alu engine block? Are all ms41.2 were used with engines with non alu blocks? I'm asking because in Europe(where I'm coming from) there were no ms41.2 at all. I have M50 engine (non alu block. The Genue ECU was provide by Bosch for this engine). I want to run it on Ms41.0 converted to ms41.2. Will I need to play with knock detection maps in the Ms41.2 flash to work properly on non alu block or not?

Anybody know the truth about material used for US M3 E36 ms41.2? Is it Iron like in M50 engines or is it some kind of aluminium?

Does anyone know the exact tables that need to be copied to convert from MS41.1 to MS41.2? I have done the conversion a few times and I always end up copying all of the tables from MS41.1. Seems to work good. Im just curious which tables are an absolute necessity.

I assume the only things that need to be copied are Fuel Tables, Knock Tables and Ignition Tables.

Thanks

I don’t copy anything and just fine tune fuel and timing. Best way as fine tuning is required anyway.

Is this effort still underway?

We have some downtime while we rebuild our M52-powered Volvo with a fresh engine, and a 41.1->41.2 conversion plus dyno time should be on the cards.

Not sure if this has been covered all in one spot but I wanted to take a stab. I am working to convert a MS41.1 to MS42.2. From what I have read in this forum the steps you take to do this depends on what engine you have and transmission. The rest such as Emissions, EWS, ASC and other things can be taken care of easily enough through the control bits and DTC settings. Hopefully so far so good.

For my situation I have a e30 that I bought an S52 with harness and ECU for. Didn't think to check the vin on the ECU since the guy said it was the original. Come to find out it is a MS41.1 for 328i automatic. From what I read this isn't a problem since the MS42.2 and MS41.1 are identical hardware wise. From what I have gathered from my situation I need to do the following steps

1. Flash MS42.2 Full ROM
2. Flash MS42.2 Partial ROM (Not sure if I need to but will do for good measure)
3. reset adaptations so that the ECU will think it is for a Manual. (only do this if ECU was for a Automatic originally)
4. Start the car hopefully after deleting stuff like EWS

I am sure I missed something. I would like a step by step process not only for myself but for others that come after. I would appreciate any help I get to create this guide.

So I did some more digging. Looks like to fully get this thing going these are the steps
1. Flash MS41.2 Full ROM
2. Flash MS41.2 Partial ROM (Not sure if I need to but will do for good measure)
3. Change Fuel tables, knock tables and ignition tables if you have a 2.8L (M52) (This may not be needed if you plan to just tune the tables)

Next steps are if you need to change the DME from Auto to Manual or vise versa
5. Plug DME into a Manual car and sync the EWS with it (EWS stores the setting for Automatic/Manual trans and sync will set it)
6. reset adaptations with INPA so that the DME will think it is for a Manual. (INPA->Engine->Errors->Adaptations)
7. Start the car hopefully after deleting stuff like EWS

Edited: Realized I put MS42.2 instead of MS41.2.

Im using a DME from an Auto 328i which I converted to MS41.2 by flashing a good full dump. I edited the tables as needed, deleted EWS in Byte 8 under Control bits and plugged it into my manual car.

I didnt reset adaptations because I didnt think it was necessary. What does reseting the adaptations even do?

In for an answer.
Thanks
