so is the band pass filter a hw based or sw based?

I would assume sw based because for example ms41.0 uses same ecu part number for all engine displacements. Or to be more excact, it can be hw based, but probaply configurable through sw.

Let’s not forget that ms41.2 knock tables were meant for 93 octane. Ms41.1 was 89.

wouldn't this make it even more strange that I get severe knock measured when I use the MS41.2 knock tables,
but when I use the MS41.0 tables is measures nothing?

I would assume that MS41.0, if used tuned for low actane fuel would have a more strict knock detection.

I get the exact opposite lol , for me its such a grey area but i guess thats the point of this forum / Project , to discover what does what.
I run 97-99 RON here in UK and still get slight knock and im not running to heavier timing either.

Knock signal conditioning hardware is not configurable by the MS41 ECU software.

I know pazi said multiple engine displacements specify the same ecu part number so let's discuss which ones and compare their full 256KB reads.

in this thread you're stating the opposite as do you do here.
viewtopic.php?f=42&t=14885

you discribe the same situation as I had.
MS41.2 tables on M52 -> severe Knock
MS41.0 tables on M52 -> No knock

Hello.
Quote:
Sorry for newbie question. I have an EU e36 m52 328ia with ms41.0 ecu # 1429861 and would like to convert to ms41.2.
As in this post http://www.romraider.com/forum/viewtopi ... 95#p133695
Flash full ms41.2 --> flash partial ms41.0 attached from that post. But it has different SW from mine. Could it works or I need to find edited 861 SW?

I did a coversion as on the link post. Engine working. But see in inpa and RR that O2 sensors not working at all. Errors clear and adaptations delete done.
Why this possible?

Thanks.

WHY why why why why !!

From almost perfect to what you see attached.
Its the same tune, two different day, AFR readings in the car are the same, conditions almost the same.
Why does this happen, is it false knock??

Please see attached, before, after.

The bottom Image is a whole day of driving, 65 miles, felt great.
The first image is after driving the car the seconbd day.

I have also attached log of the second day driving, knock all over the place !

Possilbly , you could be very right and i thought this, My AFR is reading fine though, would bad fuel, lower RON content still show AFR the same but just have a worse burn ?

Yes the AFR will be same even thought the RON rating is off.

great advice buster!! never would have thought it was just that!! i went out straight away, put £20 of premium 97 RON fuel in but from a different garage as i was pretty low anyway, within a few mins driving the car fell really good again!

Just look at the results after a few miles !! :)

again i have sporadic Knock detection.
today iv been told by a experienced tuner it is false knock.
My fueling is fine and timing is reserved, I am getting knock everywhere up to 6 Degree in sone spots.

anyone still suffering with this, we turned off knock detection knowing this tune had only half a degree retard in some spots top end and we drove it, was like a new car ! the knock detection is really making this car suffer.

Any advice would be good.

After finding a few issues lately, one being mechanical i decided to go back to ms41 as i heard so many variations of stories surrounding using ms41.2.
I donr this purely based on the fact that the ms41 software and all maps were designed for this motor stock, out of the box and it gave me a fresh platform instead of amending so many of the ms41.2 tables to then think there may be more that are not defined yet and still only suitable for the M3. also i found when flashing ms41.2 partial files when i read them back there were random changes to the flash i had done and that was the last straw.
I am now running full MS41 again but now i cant log or read addaption tables ! :( what is going on :(
