I'm looking for experiences and hints on how to get a reliable OP2.0 connection working.

For me, the OP has a strong tendency to lock up completely, to an extend where only power-cycling (disconnecting both ends) brings it back to life.
I have a Rev.H OP2.0 device and i can't get a long-running stable connection with it, be it logging with RomRaider or even using EcuFlash. (Pretty scary when it craps out in the middle of a flash )

I'm now planning to do a permanent install for logging, but if i can't rely on the OP i'll have to think about alternatives.

So, has anyone experienced similar issues and found ways to fix them?
Or, is anyone successfully using an OP2.0 in a permanent installation?

I don't remember the revision number, and I'm too lazy to go check. Here's what I did for an easy and convenient semi-permanent solution:

two clips hold the OBD port housing into the dash, you can use a small flat bladed screw driver and get the housing/pocket out, and then two more clips hold the OBD port into the pocket. Move the OBD port up and you can connect the tactrix, and two zip ties hold it to another part of the harness. Then the mini-usb to USB A runs through the dash and can be tucked under the passenger seat when not being used. 6' cable.

the problems I have had with them are related to proper connections, and proper ecu grounding. If you have it in the stock OBD port location for long and keep bumping the cable going to it, you might wear out the connection port on the tactrix adaptor or you might wear out the USB cable. If the firewall to bellhousing grounding line isn't up to snuff, you can get ecu sensor errors.

I have my OP 2.0 semi permanently mounted securely behind the dash, with the USB routed well out of the way. It still occasionally locks up fully(often during a full throttle pull on cold mornings ). Sometimes a key cycle will bring it back; other times, a full disconnect from both ends is needed. It's not locked up on me during a flash, but it's always a worry.

OP2 has the best performance of the various J2534 cables I have. If you have hardware issues, first check that your OBD-II port pins are not loose, that the OP2 holds tightly and that the USB port is not intermittent if it vibrates.
Make sure the firmware is up to date via EcuFlash.
If all else fails, contact Tactrix. I've found the stability to be great outside of any hardware connection problems.

That's good insight, thanks a lot guys.
My tests showed the op seems more likely to lock up when the connected device (pc) is low on performance. So maybe it's a buffer overrun situation of some kind.

Hi fellow Scooby Fans; does anyone have a solution to connecting the small usb end of the cable to the openport interface, permanently.

I am having trouble with intermittent connection of the usb cable at the small connector, basically its all floppy, lol.

I use a VAG cable for logging, and there is no issue with that, but when it comes to flashing, the OP2.0 is another story.

Will use a permanent installation if I can find a reliable connection.

BTW, is there an issue with the Tactrix interface "allways on"?

Any views would be welcomed. :) :) :)
