As title says this is now the second time my USB socket on the tactrix has now give up.
Reason is if you knock the cable (normally when logging) it doesn't take much to break the solder connections inside.
This is now the second time this has happened over the last 3/4 years but I'm getting concerned there's not going to be much left soon to fix the problem.
Anybody ever have this problem and is there a way to prevent from happening ( solder cable directly to the board maybe)

i use an OBD extension lead now to keep the tactrix safe - got it off amazon for 20 quid, it's quite thick and doesn't seem to give any problems for me. Means I can set the tractrix over in the passenger side with the laptop in the safe zone away from swirling legs!

Sounds like a good idea that one..

I've read about people using 90* usb sockets but your fix sounds best you could even relocate it with that cable into the glove box

you can use 90* OBD also, it is very convenient.

I removed the housing on the tactrix adapter and soldered a USB cable on to the card.. works great (so far) :)

I did the same thing, but eventually the solder broke (probably my sub par soldering).
I sent it back to Tactrix and they fixed it for free including replacing the housing (which I damaged pretty good getting it apart).
They mentioned the board can only be fixed so many time before the traces on the circuit board get damaged too much.
They did offer a friend of mine a decent discount on a replacement for the same issue.

You can also "unhook" the OBD port from it's spot, and it just dangles by the wires. Lets you tuck it up behind the dash so you don't have stuff poking into your cockpit.

Just broke it today as well !
Any recommendation to open the transparent plastic casing ?
I thought it was a good idea (this mini usb socket) to prevent issues
but actually no, the "fuse" part is the soldering

I had good com with Michael from Tactrix to know if it can be repaired...
But it seems too damaged (regarding the photo) to be repaired (means maybe easily)
So I will have to by him a new one (fair proposal from tactrix)
But if it is dead, I would like to try to fix it anyway, but don't how
If any expert on this kind of activity could have a look at the pictures

Thanks

You could just solder a usb cable wires directly on what's left of the contact points. The problem would be figuring out how to fixate the cable so it does not break off with the rest of the thingamabobs. Maybe some kind of hot glue could do, or it could be held on with some kind of bracket bolted down on the casing.

I agree with you, it must be possible to fixate the cable correctly and stiff enough to protect the soldering.

It sounds good to solder wires directly on the pcb
But I m not sure where exactly and how
I have the pinout, I think it should be solder here (see pic 1 to 4) but nor sure at all...
