 Post subject: Big Problem? '04/'05 Auto vs Manual OLCL RPM Transitions

I've verified that all of the '04/'05 ECU's AT/MT read the OL/CL Max RPM values from the following addresses. However, on ALL of the AT ecu's these numbers are 8000/8200.

With the MT ECU's they are 5100/5200.

Now my only guess is that the AT ecu's do not use these values and have a different way of dealing with OL/CL crossover via RPM or other sorts? I searched the ROM's and cannot find values that correspond to this changeover.

This issue expands itself because C0BB reflashes MT ecu's with an AT map when you marry/unmarry so when you unmarry a MT car you are stuck with a map that shows OL/CL transition values at 8000/8200.

This would make big problems for MT cars if it does not come out of CL until 8200rpm I would think. Some input is appreciated, maybe some datalogs of throttle under 68% up past 5200rpm on a MT car with an AT 800E loaded..? Anyone want to try it out?

I am not sure why the difference is there, but if I recall correctly, the logic around the CL/OL handling is the same, so I think for some reason, SOA just didn't want the AT's using the RPM trigger. I can't think of a good reason.

I'd have to fire up IDA and take a look. It's been a long while since I've played with this stuff.

I can verify that the 8100/8200 rpm figure is correct for the ATs, as this is what streettuner shows for the stock map (Cobb uses the AT map for the "revert" to stock.)

EDIT: this is for the 04-05 maps.

Well, I work in engine systems (i.e. engine calibration) and I can think of a big reason to disable RPM-based open loop operation for an auto -- downshifts. When we (or the EPA) run an emissions test, there's an actual human driving the car (they want to keep it that way to keep the variability in). If you get a "heavy-footed" driver, you'll get a downshift on the auto, whcih will drive the RPM up. If the auto goes open loop as soon as you get a downshift, you're hosed -- you'll fail CO emissions most likely.

BTW, I'm 99% sure the OL/CL delay that went into the 2004 WRX is because 2004 was the first year for full SFTP compliance in the US (all vehicles sold need to meet the new "supplemental FTP" requirements, which include a high-speed, high accel rate emissions test)...

I've seen some of the Euro and JDM STi maps also put high values for some of the closed loop stuff, like 254kmh for closed loop max vehicle speed and some extremely high CL max EGT value (like 2000 degrees F). I'm guessing there is some programming logic that doesn't use these parameters if they are above a certain range.
