Hey all, I'm trying to write a tutorial for using the Tactrix openport to read CAN packets from my 08' Subaru Outback for an H6 6MT swap.

First, I'm a total newbie trying to stumble through this. I just bought my Tactrix. Awesome tool but I need some programming help. I see two ways to use the Tactrix to read CANbus data.

Method 1: Use the canlogger files that come with ECUflash.
I tried to compile these in visual studio and then debug and the window came up but it didn't seem to do anything. Do I need to change some settings for it to work?

Method 2: Follow the JS2534-1 tutorial in the subiediesel page. You have to use the wayback machine to find the tutorial from around 2015. I can't seem to get the filter settings set up right. I want to pass all but nothing shows up when I use the ISO15765 protocol. I tried the CAN protocol and it gave me a bunch of raw data which isn't that helpful without device IDs.
https://web.archive.org/web/20150104082 ... -tutorial/

Has anyone successfully set up your openport to read CAN data and could point me in the right direction or walk me through it?

Thanks! Peter

Looks like you got the canlogger compiled. Now just set the command line options you want to use to monitor the bus.

What exactly are you trying to read? Are you trying to run SSM via CAN on your Outback? Or are you trying to sniff the bus to see the comms between other devices?

I'm not sure how to do that - If i press any key in the command window it closes it.

I'm trying to map out everything coming off the TCM since it's going away next week in a manual swap and I need to keep everything else happy.

I've already identified and mapped out half of 0X420, 0x421, 0x422 (via EVTVdue and Savvycan) . If I can log them off the openport connection I would much prefer that so I can run both the openport and canlogging at the same time. In the two days since I posted this I've learned to really like Savvycan, but I'll take what I can get if I can run the logger as well to see TCM inputs and outputs.

Peter

Run the actual compiled application in a CMD window, not inside the IDE with a view only console.
