The people on this forum are way more technical than the BMW forums that I visit, so I am hoping that you can help me out with this little project of mine.

I am preparing to install methanol on my M roadster and would like to have a low fluid sensor integrated into the dashboard. The e36/7 platform was not equipped with a washer fluid level sensor, so I installed one into the washer tank. However, it needs to be added into the operations of the instrument cluster because I want it to make a noise.

I have been looking through the electrical manuals for this car on wedophones.com.

See here:
http://wedophones.com/Manuals/BMW/2000% ... Manual.pdf

page 199 is for the instrument cluster. Here we see that pins 7, 10, and 20 are not used.

Questions:

Would it be possible install a pin onto the connector for the instrument cluster, and then solder/connect something to add an alarm for the washer tank? Is there a chip or something that controls the functions for the warning lights? To what extent is the instrument cluster controlled by the ECU?

Attached is an image of the cables that connect to the cluster. Does anyone know how they are arranged? Perhaps it can be found in the diagrams... I will look.

Did you ever get this figured out? I'd like to help if you are still working on it.
