Hey all. I'll get right to it. Been tuning for about a year or so now. Here is the car in question:

03 WRX
closed deck EJ205 block
Manley standard bore stroker pistons (2.1)
Manley H beam rods
2015 STi Crank
ID 1050x Injectors
supertech dual valve springs
titanium valves
BC 280 cams
BC adjustable cam gears (set to 0)
GTX3576R turbo (rotated)

Car is currently making 592AWHP

The issue, which isn't really an issue to many I guess, is that tuning cruising, I get odd ridges in my VE table. I tune on all time open loop, while logging the wideband through serial. I've always found tuning open loop to be way more accurate personally. I've attached a picture of my VE table and graph. I'm not sure what could cause these ridges, and if they are normal. It seems that some say that's what the VE table is for, and others say that it should be pretty close to linear and smooth. EVAP system is deleted and the compensations are turned off in the tune. It's tuned on Carberry 4.2.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks for the thought, but I don't run an intake. It's an open turbo with a course mesh turbo guard.

could also be "lack of intake" resonance! but are you monitoring air temps as well and if so where is your sensor placed and how quickly does it react to changes. Are you using port temp estimation?

What fuel pressure are you running, standard or aftermarket? Where's your MAP reference at for it, central or still on 1 runner?

good questions..

i am monitoring air temps. cruising here in hawaii is roughly 95 to 98 degrees with no noticeable changes during those periods. Intake temp sensor is a GM sensor placed on front side of the manifold near where the EVAP purge solenoid was.

MAP reference is still in stock location.

Fuel pressure is stock. I'm logging fuel pressure as well (I have an aftermarket sensor I use that's wired into a TGV and a custom scaling on the logger).

I am using port temp estimations. Intake temps react fairly quickly--If i do a 3rd gear pull, it's roughly 500ms to 1s before i see a change in temps.

One thing i did think of, but i can't see causing this is my turbo does have the T51R mod.

mmmmm are you tuning this on carberry? What's your injection timing looking like all flat/stock/borrowed from another rom?

Bringing back one of my old threads. Tuning another car, and I'm running into a similar pattern again. Ridges similar to these. It's a 2015 STi, BC280 Cams, full fueling setup including Walbro 525 with 6an lines ran from the tank. Aeromotive FPR set at 43.5, and boost reference pulled from the center tap on the front of the manifold. It's an FP black with a 3" hard inlet. Tuning on speed density, air temp sensor is right before the throttle body.

I've been trying to tackle this issue for 2 weeks, trying literally everything. I would really like to know if this is normal, or if it's something I'm doing incorrectly with the tune. I zeroed out per injector compensations, as it's recommended by Cobb for large injectors (these are id1700s).

I have tried changing my procedure on tuning to see if it would net a different result. I've tuned cruising on open loop, and closed loop. When on closed loop and I get it dialed in, average AF corrections/learning is within +-5 combined in all cells.

Do you think it could be the BC 280s? My VE table looks exactly the same - and I am running BC 280s.

My lt+st fuel trims are very low, and my WBO2/CFF is within 2-3%. Most of that is variation in temps. I don't worry about the looks. Car runs very smooth, and fueling is spot on according to the WBO2.

Hey there. Thanks for replying! I don't think it's the cams, as I've tuned about 25 Subarus since, and I see this pretty frequently. My only thoughts are it has something to do with zeroing load compensations, which I've done. I know those load compensations were created in a lab at some point, probably to offset differences in either intake runner lengths, unequal header back pressure compensation, or possibly fuel rail issues. I zero these compensations and most per cylinder or per injector tables as there's no way they are relevant with mods.

At this point, it's more of journey to learn more, as I have noticed that even with the ridges and uneven VE table, the car continues to run fairly well. I would think that the unevenness and rapid changes in VE would cause hesitation or something similar.

The only other thing I could think of is maybe ignition dwell or injector timing tables, which I wouldn't even know where to begin on tuning them.
