Hi there, I am trying to data log to diagnose a problem with my AVCS system, but also just want to log in general to see other things, such as IAM, but I am struggling to make things work right.

I have a computer built into my car, and use either the 7" touch screen or a wireless touchpad + keyboard combo.

The system works great, I have RomRaider logger installed and properly talking to the ECU, but there are many parameters missing. I have been using a cheap $10 VAG-COM cable to connect, and I figure this was why I was missing so many parameters, but I just spent $160 on a new in box open port 2.0 rev. H and I am still having the same problem... I have also tried on my laptop instead of the car computer- same problem.

Here is an Imgur album of what I am talking about:

I am running a slightly old version of RomRaider on the car computer, but even on my laptop with 8.2 the same problem exists. I have the latest v370 definitions for my car (2006 Subaru Forester XT Limited 5 speed manual)

Any help appreciated!
Chase

The parameters displayed are the only ones your ECU supports, as defined by your ECU at the time of initializing the connection.
If you expect some extended parameters, they are ECU ID dependent. If your ID is not defined then no additional parameters will be displayed.
What's the ECU ID?

I believe my ECU ID is A8DH101I (according to https://www.romraider.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=360)

I must be missing something with the overall installation. I have added my ECU defs file to Romraider Editor, and added my logger defs file to Romraider Logger, is there something else I need to do?

What is the ECU ID as reported by the Logger?

Its definitely the stock Subaru ecu, I am the third owner of the car so I have no idea what else has been done to the car. I just finished rebuilding the engine, and everything is stock except silicone intercooler hoses, STi intercooler, and a downpipe.

It has a downpipe, so I expect it was tuned for that. would a tune prevent software from properly connecting to it?

It's not defined, not on this list. Most likely it's an updated ROM.
If it's stock, can you post it?

Code:
  <romid>

   <internalidaddress>2000</internalidaddress>
   <internalidstring>A8DH102I</internalidstring>
   <ecuid>4212585206</ecuid>

   <transmission>MT</transmission>
   <memmodel>SH7058</memmodel>
   <flashmethod>sti05</flashmethod>
   <filesize>1024kb</filesize>
  </romid>

Would that be the correct definition?

the definition for editing is one thing, logging definitions is a separate job - looking in your screenshots you only have the basic parameters supported. Post up a stock version of your rom and someone will be able to generate logger defs for it which you can install on your tuning laptop to log properly.

I am trying to get EcuFlash to work so I can read my ROM and upload it here, but the vehicles list is empty... I have my EcuFlash definitions properly downloaded and installed, but not showing up in EcuFlash. Very frustrating been working on this for a while now!

I will keep trying and report back once I can get EcuFlash to work properly so I can read my ROM.

Edit: this is what I am dealing with. Look at the most recent info in the log. Seems to be reading metadata fine regardless of drive its on- but vehicle list is empty. I have already tried reinstalling. Image

Edit 2: I now see that the proper metadata folder was in PROGRAM FILES, not in AppData/Roaming. I successfully got my vehicle list and attempted to download my ROM but getting errors:

Edit 3: I was thinking forester doesn't have green connectors. I will try looking for/connecting those, I think that is my problem. I am being verbose here to help other people new to this that might be having similar simple problems. The forester doesn't require any jumpers, but still has the green connector.

Connect the green connectors, Ignition on, select sti05, read and save.

Here we go! My ROM is attached. Is there a tutorial on how definitions are made?

I am a senior at university for computer engineering and electrical engineering and would love to read up on how it works.

Edit: I posted it in this thread and not the definitions forum because I am not sure if it is a stock tune and don't want to break the rules in there. The definitions danci1973 linked kind of work, but still has tons of tables and all the values look good to me?

Thank you all so much for your help! I have a very simple idea of how this all works together, so I'm not touching any tables for now, but I am going to turn off the P0420 code and start reading up on these forums :)
