aaa you wouldn't happen to still have the code you used on that arduino would ya? Getting bored and thinking about dabbling.

ft232 must be visible as "usb to com port" in device list. If not, you can't use it.

Verify VID\PID of unknown USB device. If you see PID=0000 you have got a fake FT232 chip.

How are you powering the ECU?

ok, So now i have got a little further...
But first - MY ecu is a A2Zje11j / sh7058 Now - am i correct in thinking that i DO NOT connect the test plugs? So i never got the ft232 working, so i used my arduino uno... now i cant get ecuflash to boot the ecu... i assume thats becuase my uno dont have a FTDI chip... Using FDT unsupported version in simple mode, and with the ecu in the car, i can get it to respond (im pretty sure) But if i turn the key on to power the ecu, it wont connect.. if i leave the key off, it trys.....- and once it even did the first erase i believe.. ill post the log below...

@lordofthegeeks I got your PM. I dont remember everything crystal clear, as I tried so many different angles. I was going to try to go back over and streamline everything, but ran out of time and energy on it.
Here's my takaways though.. buy the expensive Taxtrix on ebay for ~$120. Mine resold within a week.
Get AAA and tow to a safe location so youre not rushed. There can be very small clues.
Get multiple devices if youre in a time crunch. This helped me find little differences.
Okay, now I'm remembering.. the shbootin thing has its own device. right.. let me look back at the photos..
Heres my simplification to build positive experiment controls (sanity checks): you have two devices connecting (plus your wiring).. test the 'tickler' circuit by connecting to a small speaker or piezo buzzer (both my 555 timer and arduino had similar sound, and both ended up working).. then if it doesnt connect it has to me the F232 chip device.. get more than one to get clues..
i think thats it because there arent any other softwares to connect through shbootin.. if that still doesnt work, buy another ECU from the parts yard or ebay.. then you have multiple sanity checks..

If I recall correctly aaa only used the arduino for the watchdog timer set to 4ms. All other communication must go through ft232rl. oh and grounding is important, somewhere shows extra ground that gets removed after fix.

I'll try to pull it off my Windows VM when I can. have had the PC under reorg for a while.. It was a standard code from the internet, one of the arduino sites, for "square wave" I believe.. I only had to decide if the default 4 or 8 ms loop was one period or half, and it the default ended up working.. thats when I connected it to a small speaker to compare to the 555 timer.. I think there is some variance allowed in the exact frequency needed. Also, arrrg. why is this website showing an error when i post.. i save to draft, then go look for it onkly tofind it has been posted.. frustrating

Well I'm using the uno as USB to serial converter....
I have the 955 timer which I guess is the replacement for the 555 however from what I've read it seems that I need smaller resistors which I don't have... I purchased the 47.5 k and 1K as per instructions... So that may be the issue... Is there a way to use this Arduino Uno instead is that what you're saying???
