The RomRaider community has been amazing for some makes/models/years, but keeping up with new models takes a lot of work, and I have a hunch that a bounty program would help get more of that work done.
So, what do you all think about taking some steps to encourage people to offer bounties to do things like:
* tuning and logging definitions for unsupported cars * porting patches (like MerpMod) to unsupported cars * adding features to RomRaider itself * whatever else...
I propose creating a new forum called "Bounty Offers" where people can ask for what they want, and offer funds to get it done. If a particular bounty gets really popular it might make sense to move it to kickstarter or indiegogo or something like that, but I'm guessing that most cases are going to be one person asking for support for their car and a couple other owners of that car pitching in as well, so a thread will generally be good enough.
To prevent cheating, we can use escrow: when the implementer claims to be done, they give the solution to a volunteer who confirms that the solution is legit, then waits for the implementer to confirm that they have been paid, and then releases the solution to the world.
That way, nobody loses money paying for a fake solution, and nobody's work gets released without them getting paid.
To get the ball rolling, I will volunteer to do that escrow job, at least for cases where I can find someone in my area who can help me test whatever make/model/year the bounty is for.

As a person who likes tuning cars, but is not able to be useful disassembling code I love this idea!!
I would gladly pay for additional features/ support. I have been afraid to ask before because I don't really have much to add to the support end, other than the need at that time.
NSFW thanks for offering to take on the "escrow" position and basically sanity checking the provided definitions.

Great idea! Why not? If anyone need something quickly, someone can make it right now

2 SergArb, cortin:
Bounty is not applicable for your location. There is no way to provide money transfer currently.

Makes sense - there's a massive backlog of definitions, and I just don't have the time to disassemble regularly anymore, hopefully will get things moving.

Should we create...
a) One new forum in the RomRaider section, or... b) One new forum in the Miscellaneous section, or... c) A set of new forums, one each in BMW, Honda, Subaru, Nissan, and Misc ECUs?

Let's do it, then. All we need now is a moderator with forum-creating powers to go create create the forums... I can't do it myself but I posted in the moderator subforum about it.

Perhaps I can also hijack this to add bounties for the software development side of things

I think that this is a good idea and would be happy to dig out tables and such. Thanks for setting this up!
