Hello everyone,

I have a question.
I installed romraider and it works! I installed ms4x flasher and it works perfectly! I can now read, adapt and write.

Now the question is: I really want to log my ECU and check values.
It is a 323i ms42 with m54b25 intake manifold.

Where can I find the correct definition files to use romraider logger for my dme?
Romraider version v0.7.2 Nov 11 2020

That an old RR version. Best to update to the latest and use the latest Logger definition file.

You will need to send the rr_system.log from a read attempt.

I have the latest logger definition file from that link, but it's located in the Subaru section. Is the logger general and doesn't matter which ECU you have? When downloading the ECU definitions I had that problem; I downloaded the latest one that the index refers to, and those were Subaru definitions. So I had to go to the specific MS42 tuning section and look there for the ECU definition that I needed.
Now I am having the same issue with the logger file, I don't know if the logger definition file is general or if I have to find a specific one for MS42. And if so, where are they?

Thank you.

The official Logger definition includes MS42, did you try it?

The ECU definitions are make/model specific, you have to search the relevant forum for the ECU definitions to need.

Yes. I have tried several times, and it never connects with the ECU. I can read/write the .bin file, but I cannot use the logger. Maybe I do not know how to use it properly, and that's why I can't manage to make it connect with the ECU :|

From what you said, I understand that the Logger definition is then general, unlike the ECU definition, right?

Edit: I meant the .bin file, not the .XDF file. Sorry.

Here it is.

I will try again this Saturday. So I can delete the rr_system.log and send you the new one after I try again if that makes it easier for you.

Maybe a current log is best as I see two problems at the end of this log:

1 - You are using the SSM protocol meant for Subaru logging
10:59:25,760 INFO [Thread-4] - loaded protocol SSM: 245 parameters, 172 switches from def version 370

2 - there's no J2534 or serial cable connected to the computer

At one point I see a COM1 serial device but the logging protocol is still set to SSM.

Sort these out and it should work for you.

I'll delete this file and send you the new one after I try again on Saturday. Anyway:

2 - I've "tried" or, better said, opened the logger, sometimes without even being in the car or having the cable connected. So that's probably the reason you see that. The cable and connection are no longer a problem since, as I've said before, I can now read, extract, and tune the .bin file, which confirms the connection with ECU is good as long as I understand.

1 - This is what I think the problem is; that's why I mentioned at the beginning that the logger is in the Subaru section, etc.

How do I change the protocol, and which one do I need for the MS42 DME? Could you please refer me to any thread, post, or video where this is explained, or explain it to me if it's not too tedious to do so?

Thank you for all the help you are providing to me, by the way.

Edit: I found it. This is how I set the protocol, right? I now know the SSM is the Subaru one, so I will try the others till I make it connect.

Choose DS2 K-Line for BMWs.

I guess you missed this thread because it is in the MS41 section (where it all started).

I finally was able to connect with the ECU and use the logger. Thank you so much for all the help provided :D

Even though I could use the logger and read/see the data (actual accurate numbers), I was getting this message every time I opened the logger:

I don't know why or if it matters for using the logger. I haven't created any profile, I just have the latest logger definition file and I think that is what the software means by "this profile", no? Also, I have the DS2 protocol selected or if not I would've not been able to connect with the ECU as before.

This is the problem. Create a profile of items you wish to log and save it. This will associate the profile with the DS2 protocol. Make as many profiles as you like, each with specific items that target the goals of your logging session.
