I have a little Sony Vaio laptop that I use for all my tuning. I dropped it a week ago about from about a foot from the carpet, catching it with my foot to try to break the fall. Well, after that, there was a line that goes down the middle of the screen. Then, today, the screen has gone completely white and I can't see a thing.

Having worked in retail, I know that sending it to service through Circuit City and Best Buy is going to cost more than just getting a new laptop. What are my options? Do you think Sony would sell me the screen by itself? I know I can hook up an external monitor, but that would be kind of difficult for the purpose of tuning as well as logging. I also already have a nice desktop. Is the laptop salvageable in any way? I don't have the dough to buy a new laptop. :(

I'd check ebay for a new screen. I don't think they'll warranty something like that.

+1 for ebay. There are probably at least a dozen of that exact screen on ebay for cheap. Replacing them is pretty easy.

Cool, forgot to check ebay. Can't seem to find this exact screen on there right now (10.4" for pcg-srx87), but I'm sure it will pop up eventually. Until then, I'll pull out one of my extra desktops from the closet and stick it in the garage. :o

Thanks!

You might also want to look for your same laptop on there, but broken or missing parts, as long as the screen is still working.
