Hey all,

I had this pinging issue that came about the start of this year. I was told I needed a tune. I found open source, and flashed my ecu to one of ev8sivs stage 2 maps. Ran great for a day, then started to ping even worse. My stock map would ping at full boost. His map would ping from .5 bar and up.

I finally got some logs to share too. The 1st couple maps are his ROM unaltered. the rest were moddified to give more fuel where Im pinging. Funny thing was, no matter how much more fuel we gave it, it didnt change my AFR at all.

Please see my logs and let me know what you all think.

Thank you,
DJ

I took a look through some of these logs and I can see where the issues are showing up.

If you take a look at the first few logs you can see detonation occuring at higher RPM which causes the AM to drop, it continues to occur and eventually the AM drops to 4 which will instantly jump over to the High Det Fuel maps and the car will feel very sluggish.

However, further driving and learning shows that your AM finalized at 13 which is pretty healthy for the heat that you're driving in.

It looks to be that FUEL is not the issue, it is ignition timing. I am going to work on a new map specifically for your car and lets give it a shot. The map you emailed me is a bit off, shooting for way too much boost with those duty cycles.

I haven't looked at your maps or logs.

Just wondering if you have verified proper engine health. Compression test? leakdown test?

A simple test would be to check your blowby. Take off the oil cap and you should feel pressure pulses, give the engine a slight rev and it should suck your hand to the hole a little. If it blows it away more you could have piston/ring/cylinder issues. It could just be a messed up pcv system.

Constant unexplainable det is often an indication of a broken ring land or other internal component.

I ask this because you said it started happening one day. With no changes in mods, its rare that it's just out of tune all of a sudden.

Heres a custom map to try out based off of your logs. I would also do the checks as stated in the previous post to make sure everything is sound with the engine.

This particular map is incredibly detuned compared to my normal Stage 2 map. It also reverts back to the stock Knock Learning and Ignition advance rates and load parameters. Closed loop transitions and loads have also been reset to keep interference out. I've added a little bit of tip-in fuel as well in the higher throttle change positions.

Let me know how it feels and get some logs.

Still trying to learn, looking at a few of your (correction) LOGS I found a few instances of negative knock correction and the learning is all over the place. Your intake temp is incredibly high, I am wondering how frequently the pings are occuring.

I am just trying to identify the occurances to establish a saftey buffer as I hone in on my own timing. Logicly speaking (correct me if I'm wrong) if the knock correction is building quickly as to increase timing, but the timing is already limited by the map to a certain degree; you would theoreticly want to slowly add more timing in to or increase the learning to advance at a higher rate? This would then net a higher efficientcy hp gain per combustion instance(right?) I on average am getting +10-12 KC even under high boost(14-15.5). I've observed looking at stage 2+ logs that the KC stays lower like in 0-4 range and they are getting optimal power.

Pardon my rambling I am trying to figure all of this out! :)

You will see the maximum amount of Ignition Correction applied as long as your AM is 16. Look at your KC table and you will see the positive value that should correspond to any load/rpm.
