Colby of Ecuflash was able to pull the rom from an 08 STi. I've been messing with it and overall, there's a lot of minor differences in logic (as compared to the USDM 07 STi), but nothing ground breaking that I've found so far. Some details about the new cable can be found here: http://www.tactrix.com/product_info.php?products_id=40EDIT: PRELIMINARY DEFS REMOVED. Because the openport 2.0 has been released, I've removed the preliminary defs. They should not be used to tune with and are not the final definitions and contained some incorrect and missing defs. Wait until the official canbus update to the ECU and logger defs which will be not too long after the openport 2.0 release (after a decent number of canbus ROMs are submitted by users).

I like the fact that the new cable uses a standard TXT file (for microSD logging) so we can write our own or modify romraider to write one.

Awesome! I saw the new Openport on Tactrix website the other day. Available soon, eh?

Well, it looks like they did a few things "better" than all the previous STi's.
Boost targets are smarter for less gearshift lag. Intake AVCS is better, less timing in cylinder 4, leaner fuel map to an extent, fuel cut resume boost level is good...
IDK what they are thinking with the exhaust AVCS, that can be a lot better. And the OL thresholds are kind of wacky. And it doesnt look like its running much total timing at all at peak torque. Even if it did add a couple tables together for advance, its still not much. And the throttle maps arent so top end friendly in any of the modes. They must throw in the towel at about 6k rpm stock....
But I bet they run a lot better than a stock untuned 07 right out of the box, just by giving a quick look at it...

I can't quite tell, but it looks like you can only standalone log ecu or innovative, not both, correct?

merchgod- your defs for this ROM are fantastic; you truly are a freak (in a good way!). How you came up with the detail that you have in the time frame is astounding. How much did you have to disassemble to find all that out??

the 08 sti is not drastically different than prior years. That is, the general logic is mostly the same, so it just a matter of looking at the details. Still, it probably took about 15 hours to disassemble, analyze and create the sample defs just for the 08 sti. Main issue is that they changed something with compiler that makes it more of a pain. Still ,these are sample defs and are not final. There are still a few things I need to check, especially the advance map logic.

It is interesting to see how they've expanded some of the maps over the years. Some 2D maps are now 3D with a new axis metric added. They've added compensations here and there, or made compensations apply to more maps.
I'm especially curious about boost control. Integral is now mirrored on the positive and negative side. I've found myself making the integral more mirrored. It used to be the negative integral would reduce WGDC much faster than the positive side would add it back in, which can cause a short overboost to over correct and you'd underboost for several seconds due to a 1/2 second spike. I can understand from a safety perspective that you want to cut WGDC fast if you start to overboost much. Perhaps the new compensations they have on turbo dynamics take care of overboost problems to begin with and this gives the car better response.

Perhaps the new compensations they have on turbo dynamics take care of overboost problems to begin with and this gives the car better response. Most of the non-STis are mirrored on the positive and negative side as well. It seems that starting with the USDM 07 STi, that the ECU logic is moving closer to non-STis (similar to the 07 USDM LGT in that case). The 04-06 STis are an oddity in some ways. For example, I mentioned the engineer logging parameters in the other thread. Working on the defs now, these do not exist in the 04-06 USDM STi, but are available in all other USDM roms except for the 04 FXT. Same with the knock sum. That sucks for owners of those cars as these new logging parameters, I think, will prove to be quite useful. Something new for the 08 STi is the "TD Integral Negative Activation (Wastegate Duty)". This would result in no negative changes to the integral value when WGDC drops below 10%.

so, the new cable has been pulled from the tactrix website...
does that mean he has abandoned the project? Changed the release date? Or just got sick and tired of countless emails and requests?
anyone?

a buddy and I have an 08 STI each. We're assuming it's a rest of world version because we have the 2.5 engine and we're based in the Philippines. We are willing to share our ROMs so you have 2 different rest of world ones to compare against. Is it possible to download it with the old cable? If so, I can share our ROMs immediately
