You could retune with and without MAF at least to the extent that two configurations on the same day and time match load, final timing, injector pulse, AVCS, etc. I'm not saying that has been done. But it is possible and that would be an interesting set of logs files to browse.
Keep in mind it will cause immediate changes in engine load, which trickles down throughout the ECU. Engine load is used everywhere. Plus, if timing advance is turned off there will be an even bigger change in final timing.

Ok my FMIC and rails are on and I ended up frying my MAF sensor (it won't heat up anymore) by not connecting the tranny ground. Anyway, I am tuning the car in failsafe mode and it works (I may buy a new MAF, I might not, depends on how well this works).
It would be nice to see the following though:
1. A switch to turn off the codes so you can run CC and get rid of the CEL. 2. Enable FLKC and the DA tables (they are not used in this mode) and possibly take it out of failsafe mode so we can use the regular tables.
Anyway, it does work, the load values are lower than the MAF based, so you have to adjust accordingly. At 20 PSI I am at 66% IDC with the AP parallel rails + 750CC DWs on a 20G (scaler set to 716cc). I am running an ball spring MBC now, so I don't really care about IATs, but it would be nice to have it there so I could add an ECU bleed on top of that to make sure to lower the WGDC or up based on IAT.
Note that when the MAF is unplugged, the fueling table used is the failsafe one.
My next tank of gas will be E85. Since E85 has such a high knock threshhold, I am not worried about FLKC that much really, but it would be nice to have.

LTFT (AFL1) is disabled as well but STFT (AFC) works.

There are compensation tables that would almost allow speed density tuning, but they're not always active (according to Merchgod). If they could be made to be always active, whether by code changes or by changing whatever thresholds govern its use/non-use, then you could just put a fixed resistor in place of your MAF and revise those tables to get speed-density tuning. Just have to beg Merchgod to include that ability in a future definition release.

Those features would be nice. The fixed resistor would have to go with the code change however to make the ROM run SD mode. My IAT still works on my MAF, so I am good there. I have a spare 06 STi ECU, perhaps I need to start digging into it (I have it so I can get ECUFlash working under Linux). I am reluctant to purchase IDAPro however as I may never use it again.

I was, but my turbo is blown. The MAF sensor is fine, the turbo was locking up. I got it to hit 20 PSI though, but I was not running near the timing I could and my coolant temps got a bit scary lol. The turbo is leaking oil and coolant. It is shot.
I don't like running MAF-less because you do not get AFL or DA. Basically you have no safety features besides FBKC which is not remembered.

My LTFT is sorta working, the first column in Learning View actually has data. Maybe it applies to the whole range of operation? I don't know, I do have some logs I'll look through when i get home. I'm pretty sure I have an air leak between the turbo and tb, which I can't fix atm, which is why I unplugged the MAF. Anyway what tables are used to tune when in this mode? Failsafe? Thanks.
I can't for the life of me think of what DA is? Anyway, hoping the Group N defs come out soon and hoping that I can run it on my ecu...

Failsafe tables all become active. DA tables are inactive, so you have to use the base timing table for all of your advance. IAM and DA are not used. I never had any learned LTFT in any range, but perhaps that is 07 STi specific.

Ok, I got it now. Well I was thinking of using the regular ECU for cruise, idle, light load and then using the UTEC for everything above that. So maybe this would work out like I was thinking. Thanks.
I'll try to post my Learning View if I think about it just to show what mine is doing, it's an 02 ecu...

Here are a couple of learning views and a log using the params I log for CL MAF tuning. I would assume it's in the Learning A because that is the range of the logged MAF Airflow. Fueling is almost spot on cruising but about 10% off at idle, how the heck do you adjust? I was looking for some type of VE table...or maybe just my dead time is off for my injectors?
