Seriously, get a turbo blanket/beanie. Faster spool, better heat retention and easier to remove if you ever need to upgrade turbo or replace an exhaust gasket etc.

I have a downpipe heatshield but I can't remember if it was from a 2009 WRX or a 2005 LGT. Lots of swapping was occurring at the time and I don't know remember which one I ended up with.

Just a word of caution that the downpipe heatshields are not the same.

Keep in mind that the OEM heatshield doesn't really do much. I think it's more to prevent someone from burning themself on the turbo.

Better get a turbo blanket. However I do have a forester 09 turbo heatshield thats cut already (fit for a bellmouth dp). I dont use it since I got a dei turbo blanket instead. Will this fly by post? You can also try your mates over at ozfoz. Look for Daxxx, he might have some spare parts.

Turbo blanket/beanie has faster spool and better heat shielding, the stock heatshield still radiates heat

I have the turbo blanket by dei for more than a year now. Cant say if I spool faster compared to a vf52 with just the stock heatshield on. :-)

I'm a bit fan of my PTP turbo blanket on my LGT. They make ones specifically for the VF series turbos (VF40/46/52 for sure). Not sure if we can recommend specific vendors on this site so mods, feel free to edit this post, but I got a great deal from infamousperformance dot net. Mike started as a Subaru enthusiast with a Legacy GT on legacygt.com and then became a vendor offering great deals on parts.
