I replaced both files but still no dice. Any other ideas?

With the logger open goto Help > Debugging Level and set it to TRACE. Then Open the Debugging File location. Close the Logger and Editor.
Delete the rr_system.log and restart the Logger for a minute then shut it down.
Post the rr_system.log file and anything from your system's message log related to RXTX.

FML... I did everything you said, and then the phone died which corrupted my ubuntu.img . I will have to put a fresh img on, install romraider again, and get you the log tomorrow.

I'm not sure if this is relevant, but the only info I was able to get (before s*** hit the fan) was this error in the term window I launched rr from: http://pastebin.com/2cNQBN4N

It says you have no J2534 devices attached which is fine as you don't have an Openport 2.0. The rest says it can't find a serial port. So we need to get RXTX working on your platform.

any updates on this?

Nah after the image got corrupted I kinda lost interest for a bit. I can try to rebuild another image (which I will back up this time ) and try again.
