I would like to see it possible to nest the structure. Currently it's quite flat. You've got top level, and actual data, no nesting. My stuff has some top level = data and some top level = group and second = data, and some top = group, second = subgroup, third = data.

I discussed this with Dale, but lazy loading of data/config would be great. It takes about 15 seconds on this box to calculate and load and draw and prepare a BUNCH of stuff that 99% of people will only look at 5% of.

Either only preload common stuff, or simply defer all loading until click time. Click time = single table = fast enough to do in real time = whole app is nicer. Once you've opened a table once, it's instant the second time, if not the first. This is especially true for any single cell stuff.

Logger:

6 lower tabs. 3 have params. 3 do not. The tabs look the same, though. That's kinda inconsistent in a way. Though if you know it, it's no big deal. Consider that subtle.

On the three with params, the params hide/show list is per each instead of global. Maybe some like it this way, but some will not, and would prefer if they hide it in the first tab, it stays gone in the other two, too.

I just watched "stock my08 wrx" load up: gradually expanded from small to half a gig of ram while it chewed the CPU for 15 seconds. This is part of the problem. You're telling the JVM "oh, i need a little more now" many times, instead of just grabbing what you need up front and filling it as required. Beneficial and a non-issue if doing it lazy/deferred loading style, but kinda bad efficiency the way it is now.

Just discovered the multiple roms at the same time feature. Not sure what to think of it except this:

Tabs or side-by-side would be better than one, then the next, then the next etc, down to five miles off of the screen, right? Why would anyone want more than one ROM open? Educate me please! :-)

I only use more than one open when copying tables.

I'd also prefer the parameter list as its own collapse-able sidebar on top of all of the other windows (global).

I just noticed that you can open the same ROM N times LOL. I'm certain that that isn't useful. A check to see if that path is already opened would be a nice touch.

Re collapseable sidebar. You can have that, if anything is collapseable. Just put it on the side and collapse it. Think out of the box, please :-) I don't live in a box, nor does my system. Imagine a world with totally custom logs that a user defines from scratch to suit themselves. At this point there isn't one params list for an ECU, there are ∞ of them.

Maximise and unmaximise does not remember previous location/size and restore it.

Log viewer graphs and interface to adding them and combining them etc could do with some major work. I'd ignore that for now, let some other code that I have on the go mature a bit, and then integrate that. Same goes for zooming in and out and setting the scale etc. Man, the graph view eats cpu like there is no tomorrow :-) It needs custom rendering for sure, not a library.

I like the dashboard (numeric display and bar graphs), and the warning function is cool, how about warn above AND below, that could do with some tweaking. Ditto colours, customiseable would be good. Also, stuff that goes from 1 to 2 digits or whatever other step moves the numbers around, so if you flicker over a threshold it's impossible to read. That should be relatively minor to fix, provided fonts are limited to fixed width and the variable max/min range is pre-known.

However, real gauges would be nice too. Round ones, with needles :-)

In the data view the values would be better off on the right with a fixed DP precision for the same reason mentioned above. Looks like they have the fixed dp precision already, so that's a simple change.

Fred.

LINE UNAVAILABLE: Format is PCM_SIGNED 16000.0 Hz, 16 bit, mono, 2 bytes/frame, big-endian

I got oodles of these. I went to turn off sound in settings and couldn't find it. Blind or not there? How does it do sound? Any reason why it doesn't work? Win-only impl?

OK, looks like TTS has some bugs in it.

Or just that flash was hogging it, I guess. Maybe something for me to experiment with later.
Quote:
What does the message "Line unavailable" mean?

This message is output when FreeTTS tries to allocate sound resources and the requested resources are unavailable. This can occur for a number of reasons:

Your computer does not have any sound capabilties, or is not allowing FreeTTS to access these capabilities
Another application is using the resources and cannot share them
The requested audio format is not suppported by your hardware

How much stuff does FreeTTS do? Just for warnings? Do people even like it? Just curious :-)

Fred.

I guess you haven't found the gauge style button yet. Tilt head 90° counter-clockwise.
