hello all, i have a question regarding definition files and data from a Hex file. I know that defining a ecu is a heck of a lot of work and am think seriously on embarking down this road . Im not sure where to start i know and understand a little about hex code. But i have a def file at the moment and i want to understand the relation ship between whats defined and what has been defined in the Hex file that the Def file relates to ? Is there any way of telling please can some one give me a pointer. thanks adam.

I'm not quite sure what you're asking... To get an idea of wants needed to effectively RE a ROM, have a read here: viewtopic.php?t=6303You'll also need the hardware and software manuals from the Renesas site. If you are asking how many of a ROMs tables are currently defined, it depends. I'd say we know about 40 to 50% of what's in a ROM.

You can use ScoobyRom (Google it) to discover 2d and 3d tables, but ScoobyRom won't tell you what the tables are for - what the units are, what the cells mean, etc. Figuring out what the tables are for, and finding 1D tables (like fuel injector scaling) requires lots of hours pondering CPU instructions in IDA.

thank you good Sir's. Im officially scared now, i really dont understand anything about the code, or finding keycode information on a hex file. And there fore i would say officially im screwed. i have a hex file that i would like to define some tables that i think are missing, or were never defined its a 16bit file . Could i ask for help finding this missing table if it does exist ? I wouldnt know where to start and it would take me years to learn .

Sure you can always ask. Which CAL ID are you looking at and what tables do you think should be in there that you're interested in? Mind you, there's not too many 16bit decoders on lately, most are working on 32bit stuff.

Re-read the PM I sent you the other day, about starting a thread to request a definition.
