Hello. I am having a bit of trouble with my Forester. Car is an Australian market 2004 MY05 Forester XT, with 2.5L turbo engine. The car is fairly heavily modified. I have "bypassed" the FPCU by using a relay fed off of the output from the FPCU . The relay basically puts 100% power to the fuel pump all the time, regardless of what the FPCU does. I did this as I have a larger than stock fuel pump (dw300) and am paranoid about it not working right/failing/damaging the FPCU if hooked up as per original, and also affecting the adjusting of the aftermarket fuel pressure regulator. I used the standard fuel pump wires to switch the relay in order to keep the safety features intact (prime, turn off if stall engine etc) But I am getting a p0230 fuel pump primary circuit fault code when it is loaded up. I doesn't throw the code at idle/cruise, only when you really nail it. I assume this would be when the ECU request 100% from the FPCU??? I have tried putting a small load resistor across the standard output from the FPCU in order to "trick" it to think the fuel pump is still connected to it. As I suspected the FPCU could somehow sense the load of the pump, or lack of it. This image shows the way I have wired it, except for the #30 terminal is now fed by a B+ feed strait off the battery. As you can see I basically cut the 4 heavy wires to the FPCU, and put a male/female deutcsh plug in between, then made my mod harness and relay be able to plug in between the plugs. The method is reversable, and also keeps the FPCU "hooked up" inorder to turn the relay on. I did try a resistor across pin 6 & 7 of the FPCU. The resistor was a 24ohm one that is used for when you fit LED lights to cars and the flasher goes fast, its just something I had lying around and thought I would try. Any thoughts about why the code is thrown? I assume its to do with this mod, and not something unrelated? Would "deleting" the code be a good work around? (also, please bear with me, I am not the most versed in ECU talk / rom raider jargon etc )
