Group N has AVCS, so is not a simple software update

Most of the 2002 WRX's have Launch Control available as software patches

I thought the only restriction on the 02 was the tgv butterflies.
does the avcs make it harder to update?

STi and GroupN have AVCS(variable cam gears) which the WRX does not have. Plus the Speed Density side of things will be out due to not having AVCS :)

In other words, it wont work. Patch the ECU if you want the extras

I never said ditch the factory ECU... the ECU can be patched with new software to activate them
