Hello,

I am looking to use this program to tune a few GM vehicles, specifically the Cobalt SS/SC. We do not have a robust tuning program out there right now, and I would like to provide that. I have a full definition file and a raw bin for our ECU's, but I might need someone to lend a helping hand to get me started. I see no reason so far why this could not work, but if I am mistaken, please let me know.

Welcome! What you're proposing sounds totally possible. You'll basically just need to convert the definition that you have into the format that RomRaider uses.

Can you post the definition here? I'd like to take a look at the information you have, to see if it has what RomRaider needs.

In the meantime, have a look at the ecu_defs.xml file that RomRaider uses. It's huge, since it covers a huge number of Subaru ROMs, but you will only need to craft a much smaller version of that file to get one of your ROMs to open in RomRaider.

Are you familiar with XML?

GM is a little touchy about definition files, so I don't really want to post it. It is an 8 bit ascii based code though. I am not familiar with xml files, but catch on pretty quick.

I will take a look this weekend at the current xml definition files to get an idea of how it works. I also need to figure out the checksum part of all of this too.

If it helps, check the first post of this thread for an attached working XML. It's short so it might be easier to see how to set it up.

Depending on the year of the Cobalt you could be dealing with 2 different ecu's. Also the Later Ecu can be very picky. I tune GM's using HPTuners currently and have been looking for a method of sending clients maps and a flash cable. But I'm not a fan of trifecta.

BTW I've seen screenshots and Trifecta was using ECUFlash to edit the roms but flashing with there own software.

Trifecta used to use Tactrix Cables for there flashing so I'm sure that a Open Port has the required features to flash.

what do you think of hptuners? was thinking of getting it for the wife's 2008 saab 9-3 aero xwd.

obviously a lot depends on the definitions...
