So I think I might have scored 2 hp touchpads. If you have been in a hole for the past week, hp abandoned their new webOS tablets and told retailers to drop them to 99$ for the 16 gb and 150 for the 32 gb.
The device runs webOS natively, but I am sure there will be a plethora of ports to this thing, such as ubuntu and android. I will keep you guys posted on getting usb host working and getting romraider logging from the touchpad.

Which OS are you going to use? It would be good if you tried Android and got it to work.
I think that the future Android phones will have USB controllers built in so anything you learn here will be helpful for future implementations.

Yea my original dream was to get romraider ported to Android, but apparently people are getting many applications to work flawlessly through ubuntu chroot in webOS: http://forums.precentral.net/webos-deve ... chpad.htmlOnce I get mine, I wills tart experimenting with USB host, and or obd2 to bluetooth. I wouldnt really want to flash with this thing, but itd be cool to use as a car pc that can have wireless digital gauges.

How would you hook it up to the OBD2 port?

Well if someone writes usb host drivers (which I believe they are in the works), then you can get a regular usb to micro usb adapter from newegg. However, for now I just want to be able to log, which I think I should be able to do with an obdii to bluetooth adapter.
Update: I have romraider working in ubuntu chroot inside webOS. I will be ordering an obdii to bluetooth adapter to tinker with until usb host drivers are written for the touchpad.

RR Logger will only work with a BlueTooth adapter that DOES NOT use the ELM chip. In other words it would need to be BlueTooth to serial, converted to ISO 14230 physical interface. I have yet to find one of these devices.

No, that won't work. The ELM system is limited to bare-bones OBD2 stuff like checking for CEL codes. It won't support the SSM protocol, which is needed for data logging.

Host USB also requires different hardware than device USB. There is a "USB on the go" standard that can switch modes, but it's not very common. If the TouchPad's USB ports are device-only then bluetooth is your only hope.

Is this a romraider limitation or an all together subaru limitation? I have seen a few people using those adapters with an android app called Torque.

Romraider is running in ubuntu chroot. However, I added the ecu defs and tried opening a rom and it didnt go so well. It takes about 5-10 minutes to open the rom for some reason, and when it finally finishes opening it, I do not see any tables. Any ideas?

So apparently not only does the hardware support usb host, but it works out of the box in webos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mV0ElV0- ... r_embeddedDoes logging require any type of power? Because that is the only limitation with usb host, you have to provide external power.

You can call it a RR limitation as RR was written to utilize the SSM protocol, not ODB.

I see similar problems with OpenJDK on Linux. Can you get the Java version being used? The length of time may be due to memory allotted to Java or maybe non-optimized version of Java. I see a similarly long time when opening a ROM on my phone.
